School of Ministry Development

A PLACE TO GROW

The School of Ministry Development (SOMD) at YWAM Asheville gives the DTS graduate space to focus and refine their calling as a leader – and put it to practical use! The SOMD at YWAM Asheville is for disciples who are ready to be equipped for a lifetime of serving Jesus.

Lecture Phase

Similarly to a DTS, the School of Ministry Development has 2 phases. During Lecture Phase, students will be working through provoking topics that are vital for Christian leadership. These include topics like servant leadership, discipleship, pioneering, effective public speaking and communication, Bible study, personal vision and calling, and more! During the SOMD Lecture Phase students will also be given hands-on leadership practice. They will be participating in the DTS that will be running on base simultaneously, leading different aspects of local ministry, and even taking on base responsibilities that help YWAM Asheville run smoothly. This is all for the purpose of giving SOMD students real-life ministry leadership experience that will serve them wherever the Lord calls them!

Outreach Phase

Outreach Phase in the SOMD will focus on giving students as many opportunities to lead as possible. This will include participating in trip strategizing and planning, prayer and intercession, ministry preparation and execution, and much more. By the end of outreach, SOMD students will have a solid understanding of what it takes to effectively lead a team, make gospel-informed decisions, and apply Biblical principles to everyday life.

ROOM + BOARD

YWAM Asheville has multiple houses that serve as our dorms and homes. As a SOMD student, you will live in a house along with other YWAMers. Most often, you’ll eat breakfast and dinner at home, and lunch at the classroom or during ministry times. Meals and transportation to and from class and other base activities will be provided.

Walking out of this course I feel like I better understand how to lead as a servant, pursuing God, and selflessness for others.

I never knew you could do and learn so much in such a short time! It felt like I was in God’s army bootcamp! Some big takeaways for me are; to be a leader is to be a servant to all. Relationship and identity are key to walking out in good leadership. This course was amazing, to say the least. I learned many valuable things, and was given the opportunity to walk it out with my fellow students and friends.
