What is a YWAM DTS outreach like?
During a Youth With A Mission DTS outreach, you will gain and practice practical skills in what it looks like to live as a missionary. Having just spent 3 months soaking up incredible teaching and growth during your DTS lecture phase, you are ready to put it into practice!
Throughout outreach, you may serve in a variety of ministries, from children's ministry and door-to-door evangelism to speaking in churches, anti-trafficking ministry, or simply sharing about Jesus with someone in a coffee shop. Outreach provides countless opportunities to use the gifts God has given you while also discovering new gifts and strengths you may not have realized you had. There will be moments when you are stretched outside your comfort zone and asked to step into unfamiliar situations. BUT, these are often the moments when the Lord meets you in powerful ways, teaching you to trust Him and rely on His strength!
One of the most exciting aspects of outreach is the opportunity to experience different cultures. You will learn firsthand how people in other nations live, communicate, show hospitality, and celebrate their traditions. Experiencing a different culture is one of the greatest gifts of outreach! As you engage with people from different backgrounds, you begin to see unique reflections of God's character within their culture. God has intentionally designed every nation and tribe with distinct qualities that reveal His creativity, beauty, and heart for the world.
On a DTS Outreach, you will grow in deeper friendships and relationships with those on your team and those you meet abroad. Living and serving together creates lifelong memories, from laughing through the jet-lagged, exhausting days to celebrating victories and testimonies of how God is moving! Returning after a day of ministry and sharing stories with your team about all that God has done is incredibly rewarding. Throughout outreach, you will continue to walk in close discipleship with your leaders, just as you do during the lecture phase. You will also have the opportunity to experience peer-to-peer discipleship as you encourage, support, and lean on one another throughout the journey. Through these relationships and experiences, you will see firsthand that the Lord is still moving and transforming lives today.
A DTS Outreach also gives you a deeper understanding of God's heart for the nations. You will discover that the call found in Matthew 28:18–20 is not just for a select few, but for every follower of Jesus. As you step out in faith, you will have the opportunity to participate in God's mission and witness His love reaching people from every tribe, tongue, and nation. On your DTS outreach, you are stepping into a calling that the Lord has placed before you for these 2 months. It is an opportunity to give your all in making His name known among the nations. Whether you are preaching in a small, remote village in Africa or sitting in a coffee shop in Asia sharing your testimony with someone, you are participating in God's mission to reach the world with His love!
Outreach gives you the unique opportunity to share who Jesus is across different cultures and contexts. You may have the privilege of meeting people who have never heard the Gospel before and introducing them to the hope found in Christ. As you share the story of Jesus His life, death, and resurrection you become part of God's work of revealing His love to every person and every nation. Through these experiences, you will gain a deeper understanding of God's heart for the world and discover what it means to live out His call to "go and make disciples of all nations."
So, what happens on a YWAM DTS outreach? You experience a deeper level of obedience to the Lord as you step into the life He has created you to live. A DTS outreach is an opportunity to walk in the gifts, talents, and calling that God has placed within you while learning to trust Him in new and challenging situations. Outreach is not just a YWAM DTS mission trip; it's a season of growth, discipleship, adventure, and transformation!
